DHAKA: IUB Theatre staged their 16th production Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Daakghar’ at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on January 27, said a press release.
The club performed the play in front a full house audience some of them were guests but the majority had to pay to watch the play.
On the occasion IUB Theatre’s club patron Dr G M Shahidul Alam Head, Department of Media and Communication, IUB was present.
The play directed by M Rafiqul Islam. It was a very special play for IUB Theatre as they were performing a Rabindranath’s drama and its first show was staged at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. 
The cast and the entire team were really excited as they could perform such a metaphoric play symbolizing a very deep meaning emphasizing the importance of freedom of soul.
The story of Dakghor talks about a boy named Amal (role played by Farjan Akter) who was adopted by Madhab Dutta (role played by Quazi Azin Mahmud Tonmoy). Amal was very ill. That is why Madhab Dutta with the advice of the Kabiraj (role played by Mamun Ur Rashid Arefin) keeps him confined to his room. As Amal was not allowed to go outside he makes friendship with people whoever passes by his window.
In conversation with all the passers-by Amal expresses his endless wish to be free and see the beautiful world. Amal from his curiosity wants to know about the world outside the house learns about the Post Office of the king. He writes to the king and eagerly waits for him to reply. Some of the passers- by give him hope the king will reply, some of them say the king has 
no time to write to an ordinary boy like him. In between this Amal’s illness slowly grows. At a point Amal gets a letter reply from the king that he is coming to visit him and is also sending his royal kabiraj to treat him ill. As the royal Kabiraj (Role played by Md. Shaukat-Ul- Islam) arrives, he finds out that they mistreated him by closing him in a room and slowly succumbs to his illness and dies.
After highly positive response to the play from audience at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, IUB Theatre is now looking forward to staging this show in the campus and in different places out of the campus.
