DHAKA: The 3D version of latest Hollywood movie ‘Star Wars; The Force Awakens’ hit Star Cineplex at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in city’s Panthapath area on Thursday afternoon (December 24).

The premiere show of this action, adventure, sci-fi and fantasy sequel movie was held at 4:45pm on the day.

The movie will be screened at 11:00am, 1:45pm, 4:30pm and 7:20pm from Friday onwards.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, a 2015 American epic space opera film, is directed, co-produced, and co-written by JJ Abrams.

The seventh installment in the main Star Wars film series, it stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow.

The Force Awakens is the first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy announced after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in October in 2012.

Filming began in April in 2014 in Abu Dhabi and Iceland, with principal photography also taking place in Ireland and Pinewood Studios in England.

‘The Force Awakens’ premiered in Los Angeles on December 14 in 2015, and was released on December 18, 2015, in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D, more than 10 years after the release of the franchise’s last major installment, ‘Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith’ in 2005.

The film broke several box office records in its opening weekend, making $248 million in the United States and $529 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing worldwide opening of any film.

Two sequels are scheduled for 2017 and 2019, respectively, says Wikipedia.
