DHAKA: Finally, Leonardo DiCaprio won the Academy Award in Best actor category for his turn as lone survivor Hugh Glass in The Revenant.
Brie Larson won in Best Actress category for her flawless acting in Room.
Alejandro González Iñárritu won the Best Director award for The Revenant. The Mexican director won the award two years in a row behind Birdman.
Spotlight, directed by Tom McCarthy, was awarded as the best movie of 2015.
Inside Out, directed by Pete Docter and Ronnie Del Carmen, was awarded as best Animation movie while Bear Story was elected as Best animated short movie in the 88th Academy Awards.
Mark Rylance won the award of Best supporting actorfor Bridge of Spies. Other nominees were Christian Bale for The Big Short, Tom Hardy for The Revenant, Mark Ruffalo for Spotlight and Sylvester Stallone for Creed.
Best supporting actress was Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl. The other nominees were: Jennifer Jason Leigh for The Hateful Eight, Rooney Mara for Carol, Rachel McAdams for Spotlight, and Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs.
Ennio Morricone won Best original score for The Hateful Eight. The composer wins his first Oscar for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film.
Best original song: Sam Smith for The Writing's on the Wall. This was the second Bond theme to win an Oscar after Adele’s Skyfall.
Asif Kapadia’s tribute to Amy Winehouse, Amy, wins the Best documentary feature.
Meanwhile, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, a Documentary short film on honour killing won the Oscar. This was the second Oscar for Pakistan journalist and filmmaker.
Stutterer, directed by Ireland’s Benjamin Cleary, won the Oscar for Best live action short film.
László Nemes’ Son of Saul won Best foreign language film.
Mad Max: Fury Road won Oscars in six categories. Best editor Margeret Sixel; Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega and Damien Martin won in Hair and Make-up; Colin Gibson and Lisa Thompson win for their work as Production Designers; Jenny Beavan wins for Costume Design; Chris Jenkins, Gregg Rudloff and Ben Osmo for Sound Mixing category; while Mark Mangini and David White were triumphant in Sound Editing.
Andrew Whitehurst, Paul Norris, Mark Ardington and Sara Bennett were elected as winners in Best visual effects category for the movie Ex Machina.
Emmanuel Lubezki won the Best cinematography award for The Revenant. This was the third consecutive win for Lubezki. He won for Birdman and Gravity before this.
