DHAKA: Bangladesh Nazrul Abritti Parishad (BNAP) will organize an evening of cultural program to celebrate the 117th birth anniversary of Bangladesh national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on Thursday (May 26).
The program will begin at 5:30pm on the day at Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library in city’s Shahbagh area.
Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque of Dhaka University will be present as chief guest while noted poet Asad Chowdhury, writer-publisher Abul Quasem Haider and Nazrul scholar Aminul Islam will be present as special guests at the event, to be chaired by BNAP president professor Shaila Ahmed.
Prominent artistes Yasmin Mushtari and Mohammad Khaled Hossain are among the Nazrul singers scheduled to perform at the event. There will also be performances by Noorem Mahpara Prapty among the recitation artistes of BNAP, said a press release on Wednesday (May 25).
According to the organizers, Kazi Nazrul Islam, one of most diversely talented literary figures ever had lived in this country, was a poet, composer, lyricist, playwright, novelist, short story writer and a revolutionary.
He was born on May 25, 1899 in West Bengal of India, but an important part of his life was spent in Bangladesh where he was brought with state honor in 1972 and accorded citizenship in 1976.
The event will be open to all, they added.
