“2nd K-POP” contest held in Dhaka

DHAKA: As a part of the cultural exchange programs between Korea and Bangladesh, the embassy of the Republic of Korea arranged ‘2016 K-POP Contest Dhaka’.

The contest held at Music and Dance Department Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in city’s Segun Bagicha area on Saturday (June 4), said a press release on Sunday (June 5).

Among nine selected teams, ‘Xpress D' Crew was the winner, Masquerade became 1st runner up and Achik and The B-BOTS was the 2nd runner up.

The Korean embassy organized the event, sponsored by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and RTV as media partner.

Nustat Imrose Tisha, Laila Hasan and Champa Banik attended the event as special guests.

Korean ambassador to Bangladesh Ahn Seong-doo said, “This event is not just about contest and selecting winners. It is more about sharing and being united in the name of culture”.

“Culture, often expressed through music and dance, is a powerful means of communication which attracts everybody regardless of one’s background,” he added.

He also said, “All the participants of the event are the honorary ambassadors that can bridge Korea and Bangladesh by spreading the charm of K-POP and also helping Korea to deepen its understanding of Bangladeshi culture”.

The “KBS K-POP World Festival" will be held on September 30 in Changwon of Korea. These three Bangladeshi teams are qualified for the first round of the semifinal and they will fly to Korea to join the live competition if they qualify of the grand finale.
