DHAKA: The namaj-e-janaza of one of the prominent post-1947 Bengali poets, Shahid Qadri, was held at Dhaka University (DU) central mosque after the Zuhr prayers on Wednesday (August 31).
People from all walks of life, including socio-cultural organizations, professional bodies, intellectuals and drama personalities, took part in the Janaza.
The body is being taken to Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Graveyard where the poet will be laid to rest.
Shahid Qadri breathed his last at Long Island’s North Shore University Hospital on Sunday morning (US time) at the age of 74.
He had been suffering from kidney diseases for a long and also caught pneumonia lately.
Qadri was admitted to the hospital on August 21 as his condition deteriorated.
He was awarded Bangla Academy Prize in 1973 and Ekushey Padak in 2011.
His famous books included Uttaradhikar (Inheritance), Tomake Obhibadon Priyatama (Salute to You, Dearest), Kothao Kono Krondon Nei (Weeping Nowhere) and Amar Chumbangullo Pouchhiye Dio (Please, Convey My Kisses).
