DHAKA: A Bangladeshi movie “Matir Projar Deshe” won the Best Film award in South Asian International Film Festival held in Chicago, USA.
Director Imtiaz Ahmed Bizon received the award on October 9.
“Matir Projar Deshe” took part in the competition with 14 movies as the only movie from Bangladesh with Hindi, Singhalese, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi and English.
Bizon represented Bangladesh standing in the same row with talented directors from the USA, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Bijon said, “I am very happy to achieve this award, this is for whole Bangladesh”.
“Marie Projar Deshe” competed with 15 other movies in the competition category that included “Masaan”, “Aligarh”, “Island City”, “The Tiger Hunter”, “Kash”, “Waiting”, “Buddhiya Singh: Born to Run”.
The movie produced by Gopi Bagha productions was displayed on October 9 where Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Rokeya Prachi, Mahmudur Aninda, Sheuli Akter, Monir Ahmed Shakil and Chinmoyi Gupta performed in the movie.
The 7th edition of South Asian International Film Festival began on October 5 and ended on October 10 in Chicago and the festival was honored as the most important platform for South Asian directors.
Earlier, the world premiere “Matir Projar Deshe” was held in Seattle International Film Festival and it will be screened at Dhaka International Film Festival in January next.
Then the movie will be released in cinemas across the country.
Bizon completed his graduation from Film, Television and Theater department at University of California in Los Angeles.
He jointly made a short documentary ‘Waiting for Godot’ with British Council, Bangladesh Documentary Council and Scottish Documentary Institute in 2010.
“Matir Projar Deshe” is the first full length movie directed by Imtiaz Ahmed Bizon.
