DHAKA: Noted composer, lyricist and music director Kuti Monsur breathed his last due to old age complexities at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday night (January 24).
He was 90.
He has left behind two sons, four daughters and lots of relatives and well-wishers.
Quoting on-duty physician, Khan Mohammad Majnu, son of Kuti Monsur, told Banglanews that the composer died around 8.30 pm.
“He has been suffering from diabetes, lung and other old age complexities,” he added.
“Earlier on December 22, Kuti Monsur suffered from a mild heart attack at his residence in Rampura, Dhaka. He was rushed to Islami Bank Hospital, Kakrail. Later on Wednesday (January 11), he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”
Kuti Monsur was born at Lohartek village under Charbhadrasan upazila in Faridpur in 1926.
In a 60-year-long career, he has written almost 8,000 songs, including folk songs, modern, jari-sari, punthi, bhatiali, marfati and hamd and naat.
Some of his prominent songs include: “Ami ki tor apon chhilam nare Jarina”, “Ailam ar gelam, pailam ar khailam, bhobe kicchu e bujhlam na”, “Ke bole manush more”, “Amar talash nik ba na nik soi, ami tare talash kori”.
He also has written some books. One of his books “Amar Bangabandhu, Amar 71” will be published in Ekushey Boimela-2017.
Kuti Monsur’s son-in-law Singer Shahabuddin Ahmed Dolon said that many famous singers, including Syed Abdul Hadi, Runa Laila, and Sabina Yasmin, sang his songs.
