DHAKA: Noted singer-composer and freedom fighter Lucky Aakhand was laid to eternal rest at Martyred Intellectual Graveyard in Mirpur of Dhaka Saturday afternoon (April 22).
Lucky’s second namaj-e-janaja was held at the central mosque of Dhaka University at noon.
Earlier, his body was taken to Central Shaheed Minar around 11:30 am so that people from of all walks of life can pay tribute to the music maestro.
He was also given a guard of honor led by executive magistrate Rabindra Chakma here.
Noted political, literature and cultural personalities also went there to pay final respect to the evergreen songbird.
Earlier, Lucky’s first namaj-e-janaja was held at Armanitola ground, in older part of Dhaka city around 10 am.
Born on June 18, 1956, Lucky Aakhand breathed his last at his residence in Armanitola around 6 pm on Friday (April 21).
He was battling with lung cancer for a long time.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and distinguished personalities from the country’s cultural arena expressed profound shock at his demise.
Some of his celebrated songs are -- Ei Neel Monihar, Abar Elo Je Sondhya, Amay Deko Na, Agey Jodi Jantam, Mamonia, Ke Bashi Bajaire etc.
