DHAKA: Amid huge outcry over the alleged anomalies in Lovello Miss World Bangladesh Beauty Pageants 2017, the winner Jannatul Nayeem Avril finally admitted her broken marriage on Facebook Live.
The controversy took place when pictures of Avril’s marriage surfaced on the social media on Sunday (October 1). Official documents of their marriage was also found, which officially disqualifies her claim to this trophy of Miss World.
In response to the criticism, the 20-year-old ‘Beauty Biker’ from Chittagong, however, had claimed herself unmarried, which is a key requirement to participate in a beauty contest.
But in the latest Facebook post on Tuesday (October 3), she said: “I didn’t ever bow my head to any obstacles since childhood.”
Avril also said in the video that her father forcefully locked her in a marriage at the age of 16. She couldn’t accept that in such an early phase of life. Afterwards, she broke it very shortly.
Terming the marriage a ‘child marriage’ one, Avril said she wanted to work for emancipation of Bangladeshi girls.
“I couldn’t take up the ‘child marriage’ of mine though such type of early marriage is a daily affair in Bangladesh”, she said.
She was seen crying while doing Facebook Live Tuesday noon.
Citing the landmark achievements of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Begum Rokeya, she said, “Girls can make things done, if they have the willpower.”
Outplaying the heaps of allegations over her marriage especially among the social media folks, she said, “Its fine that I’m a divorcee. As a human being, I have the rights to present myself in an international event.”
Thus she claimed herself fit to represent Bangladesh at the Miss World competition which will be held in China in November.
“See, I didn’t do anything for my personal gain. I wanted to prove to the girls of the country that a girl has the potential to do things.”
However, controversies and gossips have been smearing since the gala night of the beauty pageant grand finale on Friday (September 29) where Avril was crowned the ‘Miss World Bangladesh’ title.
