DHAKA: Eminent folk-mystic singer and flutist Bari Siddiqui passed away at a city hospital early Friday (November 24).
He was 63.
He breathed his last at around 2:15am, at Square Hospitals, said his family sources.
The artist had been suffering from diabetes and kidney problems.
Siddiqui was admitted to Square Hospitals on the night of November 17, as he fell senseless after suffering a heart attack.
Afterwards, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Physicians at the hospital said that Siddiqui’s both kidneys became dysfunctional.
Beginning his singing career in 1970’s, Siddiqui came under the limelight of mainstream media in 2000. He lent his voice to six songs for popular writer-filmmaker Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Srabon Megher Din’, in the same year. Of the songs, ‘Suachan Pakhi’, ‘Pubali Batashe’, ‘Amar Gaaye Joto Dukkho Shoy’, ‘Olo Bhabijan’ were massive hit among the audiences.
Afterwards, he continued playback singing in films and released audio album too.
He was also regular in TV shows and other musical soirees.
Born in Netrokona in 1954, Siddiqui was immensely popular for his unique singing style with mystic touch and soul-nourishing rendition with bewildering stria.
