Bari Siddiqui laid to rest

NETR0KONA: Eminent folk-mystic singer and flutist Bari Siddiqui was buried in Netrokona on Friday (November 24).

He was buried in the evening at his village home at Karligram in the district after last namaz-e-janaza held on the premises of Satpai Govt College.

Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, MP of Netrokona-1 Chhobi Biswas and leaders from different parties, socio-cultural personalities and relatives of Bari Siddiqui joined the last namaz-e-janaza and burial.

Another namaz-e-janaza was also held in the district town in the afternoon. AL central organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain, chairman of Netrakona Zilla Parishad Proshanto Kumar Roy, deputy commissioner (DC) of Netrakona Mushfiqur Rahman and others took part in namaz-e-janaza.

Bari Siddiqui passed away at Square Hospitals in the Dhaka early on Friday (November 24). He was 63.

The artist had been suffering from diabetes and kidney problems. He was admitted to Square Hospitals on the night of November 17, as he fell senseless after suffering a heart attack.

Later, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Bari Siddiqui.

Beginning his singing career in 1970’s, Bari Siddiqui came under the limelight of mainstream media in 1999. He lent his voice to six songs for popular writer-filmmaker Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Srabon Megher Din’, in the same year. Of the songs, ‘Suachan Pakhi’, ‘Pubali Batashe’, ‘Amar Gaaye Joto Dukkho Shoy’, ‘Olo Bhabijan’ were massive hit among the audiences.

Afterwards, he continued playback singing in films and released audio album too.

He was also regular in TV shows and other musical soirees.

Born in Netrokona in 1954, Bari Siddiqui was immensely popular for his unique singing style with mystic touch and soul-nourishing rendition with bewildering stria.
