DHAKA: Bollywood-Hollywood actor Priyanka Chopra has called on the world communities to pay concentration for ensuring the rights of distressed Rohingya children, who have been sheltered at the refugee camps in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar after fleeing persecution in Myanmar.

Priyanka Chopra, also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, also urged everyone to not divide the refugee children.

The 2000 Miss World made the request while addressing a press briefing at Le Méridien hotel in Dhaka Thursday evening (May 24).  

She attended the press briefing to speak about the condition of the Rohingya children she has witnessed on her visit at the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.

“The kids I met were smiling but I could still see sadness in their eyes that reflected the carnage and horror they witnessed,” she said.

“It is up to us, as world citizens, to ensure betterment of their future,”  

“The problems of the Rohingya children should be paid concentration on humanitarian ground. You have to care them putting your heart and soul,” added the Fashion-famed actor.

Priyanka Chopra also requested everyone to protect the children from the risks of possible landslide and floods in the upcoming monsoon.

UNICEF Bangladesh Deputy Representative Sheema Sengupta and Chief of Communications Jean-Jacques Simon, among others, attended the briefing.

However, Priyanka Chopra earlier made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban, in afternoon. PM’s younger sister Sheikh Rehana was also present at the meet.

She praised Sheikh Hasina for shouldering the burden of over a million forcibly displaced ethnic minority population of Myanmar.

However, Priyanka Chopra came to Bangladesh to on a four-day UNICEF field visit, to witness the condition of the dispalced Rohingya children at the refugee camps mainly in Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas of Cox’s Bazar.
