Asif withdraws bail plea

DHAKA: Singer Asif Akbar withdrew the bail petition within an hour after filing it with a Dhaka court on Sunday (June 10).

Asif’s lawyer Advocate Kazi Nazibullah Hiru filed the petition with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the morning.

Afterwards, the plea was withdrawn. But, the reason behind the sudden move couldn’t be known immediately.

Tejgaon Police Station GRO Tahera Begum confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Earlier, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Keshab Roy Chowdhury rejected Asif two pleas for bail and remand both and sent him to jail on June 6.

In the early hours of the same day, a team of CID arrested Asif from his studio in Tejgaon FDC area.

Lyricist-composer-singer Shafiq Tuhin, as a plaintiff, filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on June 4, over piracy of songs, instigating death threat and humiliation charges.

Asif was named the prime accused among some 4-5 unnamed persons accused in the case, CID Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Sharmin Jahan told Banglanews.

CID produced Asif before court seeking five-day remand while Asif’s lawyers filed a bail petition on the same day. The court then rejected both the pleas.
