KOLKATA: Legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen has died in Kolkata of West Bengal at the age of 95.
He breathed his last at his Kolkata residence on Sunday (December 30).
Family sources said he had been suffering from different age-related ailments.
He was a Padmabhushan awardee, a noted film maker with several National Film Awards, including Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for his contributions to Bengali parallel films.
Mrinal Sen was born in Faridpur of Bangladesh on May 14 in 1923. He moved to Kolkata to study, but here, he joined cultural part of the Communist Movement.
He made his debut as a filmmaker with a feature film, Raat Bhore in 1955.
Mrinal Sen is known for his famous films like Neel Akasher Neechey, Baishey Sravan, Bhuvan Shome and Akaler Sandhane, Kharij, Mrigaya (Hindi) Oka Oori Katha (Tamil) and Khandahar (Hindi).
