DHAKA: Literary personalities Jewel Mazhar for poetic works and Abdul Mannan Sarker for prose were honored with Jibanananda Puroshkar 2019.

The award was initiated jointly by Dhansiri Sahitya Soikat and little magazine “Durba" in 2007. 

The names of the awardees have been announced on February 18, the birthday of Jibanananda Das, the “Poet of Ruposhi Bangla”, said a press release.  

The two literary personalities will be handed over Tk 10,000 as prize money and an honor certificate at a programme on October 22 marking the death anniversary of Jibanananda Das in Barisal, the ancestral city of the poet.

In a recent meeting, chaired by poet Asad Chowdhury, the names of the awardees were finalized. Professor Dr. Biswajit Ghosh, vice chancellor of Rabindra University, Mohammad Mohsin, editor of Dhansiri, Poet Sarfuddin Ahmed, associate editor of “Durba" and Poet Shamim Reza, one of founders of Dhansiri Sahitya Soikat, were also present at the meeting. 

Poet Jewel Mazhar (born in Kendua upazila of Netrakona in 1962) was awarded Jibanananda Purushkar 2019, for his books including poetic works ‘Darjighare Ekrat’ (A Night at the Tailoring Shop) ‘Megasthenes-er Hasi’ and Diwana Zikir (Lunatic Chants - 2013, Shuddhaswar):  Translated books ‘Kobitar Transtomar’ and ‘Durer Hawa’.

Abdul Mannan Sarker (born in Bera upazila of Pabna in 1952) was awarded Jibanananda Purshkar 2019 as author of several books including prose works,  novels—‘Pathar’, ‘Jatrakal’, ‘Krishnopokko’, ‘Noyabasot’, ‘Piti Purush’, ‘Arshinagar’,  and stories –‘Niraker Kal’ and ‘Dui Digonter Jatri’.
