DHAKA: Malaysia set to release Nirab Hossain starring film ‘Banglasia 2.0’ on Feb 28 as nearly a six-year ban on the movie has been lifted recently.
Dhallywood model-actor Nirab Hossain appeared against Singaporean actress Atikah Suhaime in the film directed by Malaysian filmmaker Namewee.
Namewee and producer Fred Chong conducted a press conference on Feb 20 to declare a nationwide release for their movie on Feb 28, reports The Star.
“After a six-year wait, the filmmakers say they are relieved that the movie will finally make it into cinemas although they have had to make seven cuts and do a reshoot to update the story with new scenes to make it relevant,” it stated.
Banglasia 2.0 will be released in as many as 106 cinema halls across Malaysia, Nirab confirmed Banglanews Sunday (Feb 24).
“Will leave for Malaysia Tuesday (Feb 26) to attend the premier on the same day,” the actor said.
In 2014, Malaysian Film Censorship Board (LPF) imposed a ban on the movie due to some controversial scenes.
“Only the audience at New York Asian Film Festival, Osaka International Film Festival, and Singapore International Film Festival get to see the uncut version of the movie,” Namewee was quoted by The Hype.
“However, I respect and thank the Malaysian Film Censorship Board for its decision because I don’t want to wait another five years”: Namewee was quoted by The Star.
Apart from Nirab and Suhaime, the movie also stars Malaysian artistes like Saiful Apek, David Arumugam, Shashi Tharan and Namewee.
