RANGAMATI: The ethnic minority communities of the country prepared to welcome 1426 through the beginning of their three-day-long 'Boisabi Utsab' on Friday (April 12) morning. 

People of Tripura community started their utsab through floating flowers at Garjantoli ghat in Rangamati offering to Ganges goddesses.

Zila Parishad chairman Brshaketu Chakma, was the chief guest at programme. Besides, Rangamati municipal mayor Akbar Hossain Chowdhury, panel mayor Jamal Uddin, Zila Parishad member Smrity Bikash Tripura and eminent persons of the Tripura community were present.

After this, Baisuk Celebration Committee has arranged a discussion meeting at the banks of lake and then entertained the guest with many kinds of pitha and local made liquor (Pachon).

The first day of the festival is called ‘Phulbijhu’, while the second day ‘Mulbijhu’ and the third day also the first day of the Bangla New Year the ‘Gojyapojya Din’.

To celebrate Phulbijhu, people float flowers in rivers or spring water and take bath seeking divine blessings for their peace and prosperity.

The biggest festival of the indigenous people of three hill districts in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) is widely called Boisabi, an acronym of Boisu, Sangrai and Bijhu programs observed by Tripura, Marma and Chakma people of the country.

Besides, the indigenous people have different regional names like -- Boishu of the Tripuras, Sangrai of the Marmas and Khumi, Sankran of the Mros and Biju of the Chakmas, Sangrang of the Khoang.
