DHAKA: Bangla Academy this year honored three eminent personalities with Rabindra Award, on occasion of the 158th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore.
Prof Safiuddin Ahmed and Prof Begum Akhtar Kamal have received the award for their research on Tagore literature, while singer Iqbal Ahmed has been awarded for his contribution in the field of Rabindra Sangeet.
The recipients were handed over the awards at a function held at Abdul Karim Sahityabisharad Auditorium in Dhaka, marking the birth anniversary Rabindranath.
Cultural event was also arranged.
Bangla Academy President Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman and Director General Habibullah Siraji handed over the awards.
The function was chaired by Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman while Habibullah Siraji delivered the welcome speech.
Prof Anwarul Karim delivered a speech on Rabindranath's thoughts on education and homeland.
