Jewel Mazhar, Abdul Mannan get ‘Jibanananda Award’ 

BARISHAL: Poet Jewel Mazhar and fiction writer Abdul Mannan Sarkar have been given ‘Jibanananda Award-2019’ in recognition of their special contribution to Bengali literature.

Both of them received this award in genres of poetry and fiction respectively.

Novelist Selina Hossain handed over prize money and awards to them at Kheali Theatre in Barishal city on Saturday (October 26).

Organized by ‘Adda Dhansiri,’ poet Shamim Reza, associate professor of Bangla Department of   Jahangirnagar University (JB) and director of Bangabandhu Comparative Literature and Culture Institute presided over the event..Poet Jewel Mazhar was born in Kendua upazila of Netrakona in 1962. He was recognized for his books including poetic works - ‘Darjighare Ekrat’ (A Night at the Tailoring Shop) ‘Megasthenes-er Hasi’ and Diwana Zikir (Lunatic Chants - 2013, Shuddhaswar):  Translated books ‘Kobitar Transtomar’ and ‘Durer Hawa’.

Born in Bera upazila of Pabna in 1952, Abdul Mannan Sarker  was awarded Jibanananda Purshkar 2019 as author of several books including prose works,  novels—‘Pathar’, ‘Jatrakal’, ‘Krishnopokko’, ‘Noyabasot’, ‘Piti Purush’, ‘Arshinagar’,  and stories –‘Niraker Kal’ and ‘Dui Digonter Jatri’.
