DHAKA: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said India assured of reducing fees for broadcasting Bangladeshi private TV channels in its West Bengal state.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud had a brief meeting with his Prakash Javadekar at the secretariat on Tuesday (November 5).
“Bangladeshi private TV channels are not seen in West Bengal state, because West Bengal’s cable operators demand high fees. This issue was discussed,” Dr Hasan Mahmud said adding that his Indian counterpart Prakash Javadekar had given word to look into this issue.
Hasan said that Indians now could watch BTV programmes but the viewers particularly of West Bengal could not watch the Bangladeshi private channels, though there is no barrier of the part of Indian Government.
Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das and Bangladesh’s Information Secretary Abdul Malek were present in the meeting.
