Film actress Pori Moni has been released from the Kashimpur Central Jail on bail, 28 days after her arrest in a narcotics case.
She was handed over to her lawyer Niranjana Shurovy in presence of her uncle Jashim Uddin around 9:30, Syed Shah Sharif, jailer of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail told Banglanews correspondent.
Meanwhile, Pori Moni's fans crowded at the jail premises to catch a glimpse of her walking out of prison.
On Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Emrul Kayes granted the bail to the actor upon a bond of Tk 50,000.
In August 22, Pori Moni’s lawyer filed the bail petition and the court set September 13 to hold a hearing.
Later, her lawyer Mozibur Rahman went to the High Court challenging the lower court’s decision. He also sought interim bail for the actress in the petition.
On August 26, the High Court issued a rule asking why the bail plea of Dhallywood star Pori Moni in a drugs case should not be heard sooner.
On August 21, Pori Moni was sent to jail after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspector Kazi Golam Mostafa produced her before the court on completion of a one-day remand.
On August 5, Pori Moni and her associate Ashraful Islam Dipu were shown arrested in the case filed by the Rapid Action Battalion.
RAB conducted a raid on the house of Pori Moni in Banani in the previous day and seized a “significant amount” of imported alcohol and other narcotics.
