The Appellate Division on Monday upheld Chamber Judge's order of maintaining status-quo on the post of general secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, until the High Court settles the dispute.
The six-member appeals bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique came up with the decision on Monday following a leave to appeal petition filed by Nipun against a HC order.
The court said according to both parties, the High Court has scheduled Tuesday to hear on the rule it issued on the matter earlier. “The matter has been disposed of and the chamber judge’s order remains valid,” it said.
Earlier, on January 28, Zayed Khan was elected General Secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes Association (BFAA). But, on February 5, Film Election Appeal Board Chairman Sohanur Rahman scrapped the result in respect of Zayed Khan and declared actress Nipun General Secretary of the association.
Following a writ petition filed by Zayed Khan, the High Court, on February 7, issued rule challenging legality of the Film Election Appeal Board decision which announced actress Nipun victorious. The HC also stayed the decision of the Film Election Appeal Board till disposal of the rule.
Aggrieved with the HC order, actress Nipun filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking legal redress.
