Singing legend of India Sandhya Mukherjee, also known as Sandhya Mukhopadhyay passed away at the age of 90 after a cardiac arrest on Tuesday.
The information of her demise was shared by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shantanu Sen on Twitter.
Sandhya Mukherjee was in the news after she turned down the Padma Shri and was hospitalised in last week of January for complications arising out of Covid-19 infection.
According to media report, the singer was born and brought up in Kolkata. She learned music from A T Kannan and Chinmoy Lahiri before training under Patiala Gharana legend Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
She started her musical career in film music in Mumbai with the Madhubala-Dilip Kumar starrer Taraana (1951) under composer Anil Biswas.
