As many as 52 poor and distressed patients received ophthalmic surgeries at Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) at Bashundhara Residential Area in Dhaka for free on Thursday.
BEHRI, an ophthalmic venture of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, in association with Vision Care Foundation and Nobojagoron Protibondi Odikar Songstha of Chapainawabganj arranged the surgery programme.
Renowned eye specialist and BEHRI Director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed led the surgery which was also conducted by Dr Rubina Akter.
Of the operated patients from Chapainawabganj district, 26 are male while 26 are female.
The patients were diagnosed with serious eye problems requiring operation at an eye camp organised by Nobojagoron Protibondi Odikar Songstha at Ramchandrapur Hat in Chapainawabganj on November 22.
That day, doctors of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute provided free treatment to around 1,000 destitute in the camp.
Under the first slot, on December 1, a number of 43 insolvent patients cast from Chapainawabganj camp were operated at the BEHRI.
Md Ahsan Habib, Manager (HR and Administration) of Bashundhara Eye Hospital, said Bashundhara Group has been providing insolvent and helpless patients with eye treatments and surgeries free of charge for years.
“Over 1750 poor and destitute have received surgeries from the Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute for free till date,” he added.
