Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) has provided more than 3,000 insolvent and destitute patients in Cumilla with ophthalmic treatments for free.
BEHRI, an ophthalmic venture of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, in association with Vision Care Foundation and AKM Abu Taher Foundation organised the eye camp on Friday.
Over 3,000 patients including elderly, women and widows received the treatment, medicines and glasses at the eye camp held at Jhalam High School and College at Barura upazila in Cumilla.
Receiving the information on cost-free treatment, patients hailing from Laksham, Lalmai, Chandpur, and Noakhali rushed to the camp.
A group of 14-member expert team from Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute came to Cumilla to deliver treatment to the helpless people.
Under instruction of BEHRI director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, Dr Ripon Ali led the medical team in the eye camp.
Abu Taher Foundation chief sponsor Zakaria Taher Sumon, chief adviser Prof Mahbubur Rahman, director Kawser Alam Selim and coordinator Moazzem Hossain Kallol were also present.
Talking to journalists, Dr Ripon Ali said “Today’s eye camp was conducted as per instruction of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed Sir. BEHRI is dedicated to bringing welfare of the common folk. We tender thanks to Vision Care Foundation and Abu Taher Foundation for arranging such important eye camp here.”
