BSMMU Super Specialised Hospital to start patient admission on July 5

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Super Specialised Hospital will start admission of patients and surgery activities from July 5.

The decision came from a syndicate meeting of the university on Monday (June 26).

Mentionable, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 14, 2022 inaugurated the much-awaited Bangabandhu BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital, first of its kind in the country, aiming to provide specialised treatment at a cheaper cost.

According to the syndicate meeting, admission of patients and surgery activities of this hospital have been delayed due to the lack of essential medical equipment such as dialysis machines, anesthesia machines, ICU, and arthroscopic machines. However, specialized doctors have provided consultation services and arranged examinations and tests. So far, approximately 20,000 patients have been treated outdoors, and around 40,000 tests, including MRI, CT scan, and BMDC, have been conducted.

In the syndicate meeting, the recruitment of necessary manpower for the super-specialized hospital and budget-related issues were unanimously approved. In the meeting it was decided to begin the admission and surgical procedures for patients at the super-specialized hospital on July 5. 

Health Minister Zahid Maleque will inaugurate patient admission and surgical procedures at the super-specialized hospital.

BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sharfuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting.

Syndicate member AL presidium member and Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) president Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Prof Abdul Aziz MP, Begum Farida Khanam MP, BMDC president Prof Mahmud Hasan, BCPS president Prof Mohammad Shahidullah, BSMMU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Dr. Saif Uddin Ahmed, and Personal Physician of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina BSMMU Emeritus Professor Dr. A B M Abdullah, among others, attended the meeting.
