Dengue: 9 dead, 2,197 hospitalised in 24 hours

At least nine dengue patients died while 2,197 others were hospitalised in 24 hours till 8 am today (August 21), said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, 872 dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka while 1,325 dengue patients were admitted outside the capital, said the DGHS release.

Besides, this year a total 485 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh till today.

According to DGHS, this year till today 3,607 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Dhaka while 4,079 other patients are being treated in hospitals outside Dhaka.

A total of 1,02,191 were infected by the Dengue virus this year. Of them, 49,328 were in Dhaka and 52,863 were outside of the capital, according to the DGHS press release.

As many as 94,020 Dengue patients recovered this year. Of them, 45,358 were released from hospitals in Dhaka while 48,662 others left hospitals outside the capital. 

Last year, a total of 281 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh. However, 28,429 patients were admitted to different hospitals with dengue while 28,265 patients recovered in last year.
