Dengue: 8 dead, 2,168 hospitalised in 24 hours

At least eight dengue patients died while 2,168 others were hospitalised in 24 hours till 8 am today (August 22), said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, 842 dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka while 1,326 dengue patients were admitted outside the capital, said the DGHS release.

Besides, this year a total 493 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh till today.

According to DGHS, this year till today 3,570 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Dhaka while 4,259 other patients are being treated in hospitals outside Dhaka.

A total of 1,04,359 were infected by the Dengue virus this year. Of them, 50,170 were in Dhaka and 54,189 were outside of the capital, according to the DGHS press release.

As many as 96,037 Dengue patients recovered this year. Of them, 46,234 were released from hospitals in Dhaka while 49,803 others left hospitals outside the capital. 

Last year, a total of 281 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh. However, 28,429 patients were admitted to different hospitals with dengue while 28,265 patients recovered in last year.
