Dengue death toll crosses 1200-mark in Bangladesh

Bangladesh today exceeded 1,200 dengue deaths as 16 new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours till 8am today (October 18), while 2,495 others were admitted to different hospitals during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued a press release in this regard.

In the 24 hours, 513 dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka while 1,891 dengue patients were admitted outside the capital, said the DGHS release.

Besides, this year a total of 1,206 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh till today.

A total of 2,47,193 were infected by the Dengue virus this year. Of them, 93,105 were in Dhaka and 1, 53,514 were outside of the capital, according to the DGHS press release.

As many as 2,37,688 Dengue patients recovered this year. Of them, 90,469 were released from hospitals in Dhaka while 1,47,219 others left hospitals outside the capital.

According to DGHS, 2,468 patients are now undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Dhaka while 5,831 patients are being treated in hospitals outside Dhaka.

Last year, a total of 281 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh. However, 28,429 patients were admitted to different hospitals with dengue while 28,265 patients recovered last year.
