LAXMIPUR: US ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena on Wednesday said that his country have been working for the development of health services in Bangladesh.
He made the observation to the journalists after completion of a workshop under the USAID financed project titled ‘Mamoni Health System Strengthening’ at the district Sadar in the morning.
Earlier in the day, Mozena visited the Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.
He said hospitals in Bangladesh, around 15 years ago, used to be filled with diarrhea patients; many of the patients were died in diarrhea and bronchitis which is not happening now.
The US government has been working with children and expectant mothers which have helped to reduce the mortality rate significantly.
We also are working on family planning so that the families can be smaller in size, he added.
Mozena’s wife Grace Mozena, USAID mission director to Bangladesh Janina Jaruzelski, Laxmipur district civil surgeon Dr Golam Faruk Bhuiyan, additional deputy commissioner M Shahdat Hossain and senior manager to Mamoni Health System Strengthening project Tapan Kumar Brahma among others were present in the function.
