DHAKA: A three-day free surgical camp for poor and ultra-poor people mostly from remote area of the country inaugurated at America-Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital on Monday noon.
Funding by the ‘Operation Cleft Australia’ Centre for Disability in Development (CDD) organized the camp with the slogan ‘gift a smile for life.’
Australian High Commissioner to Dhaka Greg Wilcock has inaugurated the operation camp as chief guest.
In the camp a total of 35 people mostly children will get free surgical operation of cleft lip and cleft palate.
In his speech Wilcock said, “I have two sons age of two and four. So I feel the face condition when it is not normal.”
The diplomat said, “Operation Cleft is doing a great job. This job is very much essential for children. This success is all of yours. We stayed beside you for the last forty years and in future, we will keep with you.”
Wilcock urged the aid partners including Hong Kong to continue their support to Bangladesh in this sector.
Fareast Group is financing in the operation camp as local donor of Operation Cleft.
Fareast Group Chairman Asif Moil, Rotary District Governor Joynul Abedin and Operation Cleft Australia’s Programme Manager Hasiba Hasna Joya among others were present in the inaugural ceremony.
