DHAKA: A lot of people are following the vegan fad. But many don't know what the diet means. If you want to go vegan, remember the following, reports The Times of India.

- Don't cut down on whole foods: Many dieters eat vegan foods like vegan bread, vegan cheese etc. over whole foods like greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts, etc. Don't substitute your vegan products for your whole foods.

- Increase the intake of veggies: A vegan diet means choosing plant food over animal food, so you have to eat more vegetables. Aim for at least three cups a day. For example, you can consume green smoothies along with roasted veggies.

- Don't forget the carbs: A healthy body needs carbs to survive as it provides energy as well as improves digestion. The best sources are from veggies and fruits.

- Never ignore hunger pangs: If you feel hungry a few hours after eating a whole meal, don't ignore it. You can fulfill your hunger by eating something healthy instead of starving. Have a fruit and drink a glass of water.
