European doctors visit DMCH to serve burn victims

DHAKA: The visiting European medical team visited Dhaka Medical College and Hospital Saturday noon to provide treatment to the burn victims of recent political violence across the country.

DMCH authorities introduced 11 team members of Germany-based voluntary and social organization ‘For Bangladesh Association’ to the media, also attended by DMCH director Brigadier General (Retd) Mizanur Rahman.

The team included physicians from Germany, Hungary and The Netherlands.

DMCH burn unit coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen delivered a welcome speech at the introducing event.

Member of Parliament Professor Habib Millat said at the event that the violence created in the name of political movement in the country left many people injured. After knowing the incidents, expatriates expressed their sympathy. As part of an initiative by the expatriates, the visiting team has come in Dhaka.

According to him, the volunteer physicians will bear all of their expenditures by themselves.

DMCH burn unit director Professor Abul Kalam said that all patients, irrespective of violence victims, in the burn unit will get treatment from the visiting doctors.

However, they will serve the patients from April 5 to April 12.

The team consisted of professor Dr Heinz-Herbert Homann, leading surgeon (Plastic, Burn, Hand Surgery) at BGU Hospital in Germany, Dr Greg Pataki, senior plastic surgeon of Hungary, Dr Peter Preissler, Senior Surgeon of St Johannes Hospital in Germany, Dr Peter Vancso, senior plastic and burn surgeon from Hungary, Dr Marc Kraemer,  Sanego-Augusta Hospital of Germany, Dr Eva Verga, Anesthetist from Interplast Hungary, Greta Hesseling , Senior Nurse  and OP and Brun Trainer from Holland, Carolina Hoerner,  Assistant Surgeon and Engineer Hassnat Mia of Germany and also President of “For Bangladesh Association”, Germany and Project Manager.
