DHAKA: Deputy Program Manager of National Malaria Control Program Dr Zahirul Karim said that currently some 1.32 crore people of the country are at the risk of getting malaria.
He made the disclosure in a press conference at health ministry MIS building in city’s Mahakhali area on Thursday.
Zahirul said Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Rangamati are the most vulnerable districts for malaria decease. Moreover, Chittagong, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Jamalpur and nine other districts belong to the malaria risk areas.
However, the death toll for the decease lessened from 2009 to 2013. But, at least 45 people died from malaria in 2014 which was 15 in 2013.
In 2013, some 26,891 people were infected by malaria which increased to 57,500 people in 2014, said Zahirul.
Director Abul Khair M Shamsuzzaman of the program, BRAC director Akramul Islam and World Health Organization (WHO) representatives Dr Kamal Rezwan and Dr M Muktadir Kabir, among others, were present at the program.
