DHAKA: The rate of HIV infected people are on the rise in Bangladesh as all the causes of contracting the disease exists here.
The rate would increase more if the authorities concerned fail to ensure decrease of chances of contraction, provide essential services and medical helps to the people under risk of catching the disease.
Assistant director and program manager (HIV) of health and family welfare ministry Dr M Anisur Rahman came up with the observation at a press conference on Monday on the eve of World AIDS Day (December 1).
National AIDS/STD Program (NASP) organized the conference at National Press Club in city with the assistance of Light House Consortium.
Bangladesh also will observe the day in unison with the world on December 1 with the theme “Getting to zero”, he added.
Additional secretary of the ministry Biman Kumar Saha said the disease could not spread in Bangladesh due to rise of conscious efforts.
STD control program director and line director Dr M Shafiqul Islam and Light House Consortium executive director Harun-or-Rashid, among others, were present at the conference.
