DHAKA: The International Nurses Day-2016 is being observed in the country on Thursday (May 12) with the view to raise awareness about the role of nurses in the healthcare and in society.
Every year the Day is observed around the world on May 12, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
The theme for this year is ‘Nurses: A Force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective’.
BSMMU organized a discussion to mark the day where its Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan was the chief guest.
Professor Kamrul said, “BSMMU is proud to celebrate the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality care to their patients.”
Pro-VC (Research and Development) Professor M Shahidullah Sikder, Treasurer Prof M Zulfiqur Rahman Khan also attended the discussion.
Nursing Faculty Dean Professor Shahana Akhter Rahman presided over the discussion here.
The discussion was followed by a cultural event. Earlier, nurses organised a rally on the university campus.
Meanwhile, several hundreds of nurses of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), Savar, brought out a colourful procession to mark the day.
Later, the nurses took part in a discussion at Redway Hall of CRP, Savar after circumambulating the campus.
