DHAKA: People concerned categorically said necessary measures would be taken against the mills for producing salt without iodine after August 31.

They came up with the assertion on Thursday in an annual review meeting of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) at BIAM auditorium in the capital.

BSCIC, in a press release, also said awareness should be created among the people in removing problems exposed by the shortage of iodine by 2016 apart from making the nation healthy both physically and mentally.

In support with UNICEF, MI and GAIN, BSCIC is implementing the third phase of CIDD project with the estimated amount of Tk 71 crore.

The production of iodized salt will increase from 58 to 90 percent ensuring cent percent of family consumption by 2016, if the project is implemented.

BSCIC chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder was present as chief guest on the occasion.

Joint-chief of Industrial ministry Lutfur Rahman Tarafder, project director Abu Taher Khan, director of BSCIC (development & expansion) Zahangir Molla and many other officials of BSCIC were present in the meeting.
