DHAKA: The intern physicians on Monday (March 6) called off work abstention.

They came up with the decision after a meeting with health minister Mohammed Nasim at his Dhanmondi residence around 11:00 am.

The interns also expressed sorrows for the sufferings of the patients caused by their work abstention.

Information secretary to health and family welfare ministry Parikshit Chowdhury confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Earlier, On February 19, four interns of Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) in Bogra allegedly beat up relatives of a patient after a female intern was asked by the patient’s son to turn off a fan.

On recommendation of the probe committee investigating the assault, health and family welfare ministry on March 2 suspended the internship of the four accused interns for six months.

Later, the interns called for the work abstention from Saturday morning issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to meet their demands.
