DHAKA: Dr Kanak Kanti Barua has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University- BSMMU. 

Health and Family Welfare ministry issued an order in this regard on Thursday (March 15).

Dr Kanak has been serving as the chairman of BSMMU Neuro Surgery Department and dean of Surgery Department. 

Dr. Barua is also the brother of Dilip Barua, who is the leader of Samyabadi Dal. He will replace the current Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan. Professor Hasan`s three-year term will end on March 23.

Dr. Kanak Kanti Barua, who completed his MBBS degree from DMCH in 1977, is a very renowned doctor. He has many international publications. He is also the president of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS).
