DHAKA: The National Vitamin-A Plus campaign, which earlier had been postponed for unavoidable reasons, will be held across Bangladesh on Saturday (February 9), to fed Vitamin A plus capsules to 2.2 crore children.
National Nutrition Services Directorate Director Dr. Mohammad Yunus confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
“Health Ministry sent a letter in this regard and as per the letter, the postponed National Vitamin-A Plus campaign will be held on February 9. We have started all kind of preparatory measures to make the campaign a success”, he added.
However, the investigation over the incident of the glued capsules with one another in the packets that halted the Vitamin-A Plus campaign has yet been finished.
Although the seven-member probe committee formed by the ministry of health submitted the report but tests of the glued capsules have yet been done, said sources concerned.
Under the campaign, children aged from six to 11 months will be given a blue capsule (100,000 IU) while children from 12 to 59 months will be given a red capsule (200,000 IU) on that day.
Vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules is crucial to prevent childhood blindness and reduces child mortality,
Besides, vitamin A increases immunity of children and reduces the risk of child mortality.
