DHAKA: A fire broke out at Shaheed Suhrwardy Medical College Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital city on Thursday (Feb 14) evening.
On information, 17 units of firefighters rushed to the hospital and brought the fire under control around 8:20 pm, said Brig Gen (retd) Ali Ahmed Khan, director general (DG) of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Some 1200 patients were evacuated from the different floors of the hospital and taken to nearby hospitals, inclduing Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Banglanews correspondents report.
The fire broke out in the store room at gound floor in the new building of the hospital around 5:50pm.
No causalities were reported in the incident.
