DHAKA: Approximately five children die of kidney disease every hour in the world, said doctors of Pediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh (PNSB).
“There is a child afflicted with kidney disease among every 10 children,” PNSB also said at a press conference organized on the occasion of 14th World Kidney Day in city’s National Press Club on Thursday (March 14).
“Around 2 crore people are suffering from various kidney-related complications in Bangladesh. Out of that number, 40-50 percent patients are children. This disease is getting worse day by day,” said specialized doctors and researchers of PNSB.
Usually, 75-85 percent people are not aware about the disease. But, they only become knowledge about horrible symptoms of the disease when their kidneys are dysfunctional, according the researchers.
Around 50,000 children are suffering from chronic kidney disease in Bangladesh, said PNSB’s presidentGolam Mayeen Uddin who is also a professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
