Ineffective mosquito spray: HC for investigation against involved

DHAKA: The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to investigate the corruption against the people who imported and supplied impotent mosquito insecticide.

A bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader on Wednesday (July 17) passed the order on a writ petition filed in public interest.

The Dhaka city Corporations were also asked to take effective action against people involved in the corruption after investigation and submit a report before the HC by August 20.

It has also been instructed to bring effective medicines to kill mosquitoes and take quick steps to spray it.  If necessary, they will take help from departments concerned of the government.

Advocate Manzill Murshid moved for the petition while Advocate Nurunnahar Nupur stood for City Corporation in the courtroom.

Supreme Court lawyer Manzill Murshid said according to a media report, the chemicals being sprayed in Dhaka North and South City Corporation areas are not killing the mosquitoes. Despite being aware of this, the authorities are not changing the ineffective insecticide.

In another report, City Corporation has said the process to get approval for procurement of a new insecticide was lengthy. It needs at least six months.

So, in the petition, I seek court directive upon the government to take a decision for the procurement of new insecticide with no further delay, Monzil Murshid added.
