DHAKA: The Department of Drug Administration of Bangladesh has banned the import of raw materials, production and sale of ranitidine, used to treat ailments such as heartburn and ulcers by decreasing the amount of stomach acid.
The government made this decision during an emergency meeting with the leaders of the Drug Industry Association.
Major General Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Drug Administration, confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Sunday (Sep 29).
He said, “A temporary ban on ranitidine has been imposed. The decision was taken in a meeting with the leaders of the Drug Industry Association”.
Ranitidine, sold under the trade name Zantac among others, is a medication which decreases stomach acid production.
