Coronavirus: Bangladeshi's condition ‘critical’ in Singapore

DHAKA: One of the five Bangladesh citizens, infected with coronavirus in Singapore, is now in a “critical state”, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday (Feb 19).

Medicine given to the 39 year-old person is not responding, he said.

Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan conveyed the updates during a telephone conversation with his Bangladesh counterpart Dr Momen this morning.

“They (Singapore government) are doing their best to take care of him (Bangladeshi national) with top medical services,” Dr Momen told reporters after attending a function in a city hotel.

The Bangladeshi citizen has been suffering from respiratory, kidney problem and phenomena before he got infected with the coronavirus. He has been in the intensive care unit for the last 13 days.

Five Bangladesh citizens have so far been infected with coronavirus in Singapore, according to Singapore Health Ministry.

All five Bangladeshis infected are linked to the cluster at Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site.

Last one aged 26 was diagnosed with the virus on February 15 while two others Bangladeshis aged 30 and 37 on Feb 13. Earlier, two Bangladeshi nationals aged 35 and 39 were reported to be diagnosed with novel coronavirus on February 9 and 11 respectively.

Meanwhile, coronavirus or Covid-19 has now claimed 2,004 lives in China, according to the latest Chinese data released on Wednesday (Feb 19).

There have been 74,185 confirmed infections recorded in mainland China and around 700 cases in other countries around the globe.
