Professor Dr Tahmina Shirin has been appointed as the director of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
She previously worked as the chief scientific officer (CSO) of the Virology Department of IEDCR.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a circular on Wednesday saying the appointment will be effective from August 20.
Professor Dr Tahmina Shirin completed her MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College. She then did MPhil and Ph.D. She has been working in IEDCR since 2013.
Earlier on August 13, the present director of IEDCR Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora was appointed as the Additional Director General (Planning and Development) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
