India reported a spike of 62,212 new coronavirus cases on Saturday morning along with 837 deaths. With the latest figures, India’s coronavirus caseload now stands at over 74 lakh.
India currently has 74,32,681 coronavirus cases and 1,12,998 deaths, according to the health ministry data.
Among the 74 lakh cases, there are 7,95,087 active cases, 65,24,596 cured cases and 1,12,998 deaths, according to the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.
India has one of the lowest coronavirus deaths per million population in the world, as the country registered less than 1,000 fatalities daily since October 4, the Union Health Ministry said.
"The Covid-19 case fatality rate has been on the slide continuously. At the current figure of 1.52 per cent, it is the lowest since March 22," news agency PTI quoted the ministry.
However, keeping the winter and festival season in mind, Union Health Minister and BJP leader Harsh Vardhan on Friday said the upcoming months are going to be crucial to combat Covid-19 in India.
“The next two-and-a-half months are going to be very crucial for us in our fight against corona because of the winter season and the festival season. It becomes the responsibility of every citizen to not let our guard down and follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour to curb the spread of the infection,” PTI quoted Vardhan.
