So the two of you have broken up but you would like to maintain your relationship with your ex's family. Here's how
Breaking up is hard and not only spoils your equation with the person concerned but with those the two of you have been close to as a couple. This could include friends or his/her family.
Take some time
Right after you've broken up; maintain some distance not only from your ex but from his/her family as well. Do not worry about what the family would think about you, because if they have really known you, they would understand that you require some time to be on your own before you meet them again.
But keep in touch
Don't break your ties with his/her family altogether. Taking some time off does not mean that you move away from their lives entirely. During the time that you wish to have on your own, keep messaging them or calling them every once in a while to find out how they've been and update on your situation as well.
Start with small gatherings
One way to reunite with them once again is by calling them over to your place or by going over to their place to meet them. But do this when your ex is not at home (if you are very close to the family and they are even comfortable chatting with you when he/she is not at home). This way you would avoid bumping into your ex and landing up in an awkward situation.
