It feels great to lose weight, but when you find that the weight has only been replaced by sagging skin, that can be a big disappointment after all that hard work and effort. You can tighten that skin up again though, so read on and find 10 ways that you can tighten skin after weight loss:
1. Eat foods that will bring back the elasticity to your skin
Some foods can bring back the elasticity to your skin by promoting the production of collagen. For this, you will need food that contains Vitamins C, K, E and A, along with zinc and selenium. Some of the best sources of these vitamins and minerals are fish, beans, nuts and seeds.
2. Stay hydrated
In order that your skin can regain its elasticity, it is also important to stay hydrated, all of the time. Drink one to two litres of water daily and, this alone, will make a huge difference.
3. Protect your skin from the sun
UV light form the sun and from tanning booths will make the skin get loose, so avoid the tanning salon and always apply sunscreen to your face, neck and hands when you go out, even if it’s a cloudy day.
4. Tone up your muscles
Another tip on how to tighten skin after weight loss is to tone your muscles. If you’ve lost a lot of weight, then you have probably lost muscle mass too. Get back to the gym and work on building the muscle mass back up and that will fill out some of the space left by the lost fat.
5. Try skin brushing
Exfoliating and skin brushing will also tighten up your skin. Brush or exfoliate your skin every day and it will increase the blood supply and promote the growth of new skin cells.
6. Treat yourself to a massage
Massage increases the blood flow and improves the elasticity of skin, so treat yourself to a massage or two at your nearest spa. It’s good for your skin and a bit of pampering is always worth the money!
7. Butter up
To tighten up your skin and moisturise it, massage it with cocoa butter or shea butter, daily. The massaging will help and so will the nourishment that the butter will give to your skin.
8. Eat plenty of protein
Protein will help to rebuild your muscles and make put the elasticity back into your skin too. Lean meats like turkey and chicken and plenty of fish, should all be on your regular shopping list.
9. Massage your skin with natural oils
Moisturising from the outside is as important, as keeping yourself hydrated. Massaging the affected area every day with one of these oils: olive oil, sweet almond oil, sesame seed oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, or similar, will moisturise your skin and keep the moisture locked in for longer, which will help to firm up your skin.
10. Eat more raw food
Adding more raw foods to your diet will increase the amount of vitamins and minerals that you are taking in and tighten your skin up again. Raw fruits and vegetables will all give you more nutrients than if you cooked them.
